England captain Wayne Rooney has revealed he would be open to extending his contract at Manchester United as he concedes his future is now in central midfield.
Rooney, 30, finished last season for United strongly after being moved into midfield by Louis van Gaal and he has carried that form on for England in their opening two matches on Euro 2016.
The United skipper still has three years remaining on his current deal but wants to commit his future to the club through his twilight years.
“I have a contract at the club that I want to see out and wouldn’t be against extending it - but that’s up to the club,” Rooney is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard.
“All players’ games develop and change over time - look at Giggsy towards the end of his career compared to the beginning. What I can say is I will continue to develop my game and adapt and improve throughout.
“I think my record shows I have always enjoyed assisting goals as much as scoring them and I also enjoy the involvement from deeper positions."
Rooney is the highest rated player to England at Euro 2016 from those to have started at least one game, having created at least five more cleat-cut chances than any other player (8).
