Henderson desperate for Manchester United return, admits Wilder

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has conceded on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson is desperate to forge a career at boyhood club Manchester United.

Henderson is currently into his second year on loan at Sheffield United and has been an invaluable player for Wilder's side.

The England Under-21 international played an integral part in the club's promotion from the Championship last season and has helped the Blades push for Europe this term.

Henderson's strong displays have not only forced him into the picture for England but there have even been suggestions he should replace David de Gea as United's No.1 next season.

De Gea has struggled for consistency in the last two years but United managed to secure the Spaniard's long-term future with a new contract at the start of the campaign.

Henderson has made it clear in the past he wants the No.1 jersey at Old Trafford and his current manager, Wilder, insists that is still the case.

"I spoke to Dean after [his mistake against Liverpool in September], he wants to win 50 caps and play for Manchester United and he has to overcome disappointments," Wilder told Sky Sports' The Football Show.

"His reaction shows our changing room. Last year against [Aston] Villa, 10 mins left he had a disappointing 10 minutes when we could have gone top and he came roaring back. I am the biggest supporter and backer."

Sheffield United would remarkably leapfrog United into fifth place in the Premier League if they win their game in hand when football is safe to resume.

Despite his costly error in their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, Henderson has enjoyed a superb individual display and should soon be knocking on the door as No.1 for England and United.

In fact, only Burnley shot-stopper Nick Pope (11) has kept more clean sheets than Henderson (10) of all goalkeepers in the Premier League this season.
