Sassuolo confirm Berardi offers from abroad

Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali has revealed the Serie A side have received an ‘important offer’ from a foreign team for star man Domenico Berardi.

The 22-year-old endured an injury-hit campaign last season but that hasn’t stopped the likes of Inter and Roma from being linked with a move for the Sassuolo star this summer.

Berardi was linked with a high profile move to Juventus when he broke onto the scene a few years ago, while Chelsea have also been closely associated with the Italy U21 international, and the club have now revealed an unnamed side from outside of Italy have tabled an offer.

“There are a number of possibilities for Berardi,” Carnevali told Sky Sports Italia, via Football Italia. “There is always this talk of Inter and Roma, today [Wednesday] we received an important opportunity for him from a foreign club.

“Our desire is to keep him, but we know that faced with certain offers - and based on what the player wants - it might be difficult to keep hold of him. These are evaluations we need to make with the player himself.”

Berardi was only able to start 20 league games last season but still managed to weigh in with five goals and nine assists for Sassuolo. His absence was a real blow for the Neroverdi, who struggled to cope with the addition of Europa League football at the start of the campaign.

In fact, Sassuolo’s win ratio in Serie A last season dropped from 40% when Berardi started to just 27.8% without the Italian forward in the starting XI.
