Wenger offered deal to become best paid manager in the world

Departing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been offered a deal by an unnamed Chinese Super League side that would make him the highest paid manager in the world, reports The Daily Mirror.

Wenger announced last week that he would step down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season, 12 months before his existing £8m-a-year deal is due to expire.

The 68-year-old has already confirmed he wants to prolong his managerial career and hopes to continue managing clubs competing in the Champions League.

Wenger’s preference is to manage in France or Spain but the Arsenal boss now has to weigh up a serious offer from China that would more than treble his current wage.

Marcello Lippi is reportedly the best paid manager in the world after landing a contract worth £24m-a-year to take charge of Chinese national team in 2016.

However, a Chinese Super League team are reportedly willing to offer Wenger even more than that in a sensational bid to prise the Frenchman back to the Far East.

Wenger spent more than 12 months managing in Japan prior to being appointed Arsenal manager in 1996. The Frenchman has managed more than 1,000 games at Arsenal and currently has a win ratio of 58%.
