Aston Villa announce third signing of the summer

Aston Villa have announced they have signed Hull defender Ahmed Elmohamady on a three-year deal after triggering his £1m release clause.

Steve Bruce has added the experienced right-back to his squad having already signed Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a season-long loan deal and former Chelsea captain John Terry on a free transfer.

Villa are already well-stocked in Elmohamady’s position but Bruce has moved to reunite with the 29-year-old after managing the Egyptian at Hull.

“I am delighted to be here at Aston Villa,” he told the club’s official website.  “Aston Villa is a great club and I am thrilled to join – it’s one of the very biggest clubs in England and its history and tradition is there for all to see.

“It’s a great time to join too as we look for promotion to the Premier League. I will give absolutely everything to help us achieve that goal. I know, first hand, what it takes to win promotion and I want that feeling again.”

Elmohamady has been one of the first names on the teamsheet for Hull since joining from Sunderland in 2013 and his departure will be a big blow for the Tigers, who continue to be picked a part for their best players this summer.

In the last four Premier League campaigns only Marc Albrighton (606) has attempted the most crosses (excluding corners) than Elmohamady (589), which is all the more impressive when you consider he spent one seasons in the Championship during that time.
