Icardi extends Inter deal and joins Paris Saint-Germain

Inter have confirmed Mauro Icardi has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

The Serie A giants have been looking to offload Icardi on a permanent basis all summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by new head coach Antonio Conte.

Icardi dug his heels in about leaving Inter and rejected proposals from the likes of Monaco, Napoli and Roma.

The Argentina international has been stripped of the Inter captaincy and his No.9 shirt since the turn of the year but has now secured a temporary move to PSG.

The Ligue 1 champions are currently enduring a crisis in attack with Kylian Mbappe and Edison Cavani both sidelined.

Neymar has also not featured for PSG this season due to uncertainty regarding his future but will now stay at the club for another season.

Inter have first moved to extend Icardi’s contract by a further 12 months to retain value in the 26-year-old, though PSG reportedly have an option to sign the forward permanently for a further €70m (£63.3m).

Icardi’s previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2021 and he would have only one year remaining by the time he returned from PSG at the end of the season.

The Argentine striker has reached double figures for league goals in six of the last seven seasons.
