Former Arsenal flop on Manchester City's radar

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has identified Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry as his ideal replacement for Leroy Sane, claims The Sun.

Sane is widely expected to leave City at the end of the season when he will only have 12 months left to run on his current deal.

Bayern have parked themselves at the front of the queue for Sane after failing with several bids for the 24-year-old last summer.

Sane has not featured for City since suffering a serious knee injury in the Community Shield in August but is back in full training.

City are planning for Sane's departure this summer and want to raid Bayern for his replacement.

After failing to make it at Arsenal during his four years at the club, Gnabry has developed into one of the Bundesliga's best attackers in the last 18 months.

The 24-year-old famously couldn't get into Tony Pulis' West Brom side during a loan stint at the Hawthorns in the 2015/16 campaign.

It remains to be seen whether Gnabry is even considering his future at Bayern and whether he would join City if their Champions League ban is upheld by CAS.

Bayern have been managing Gnabry's fitness this season to have him in prime condition for the second half of the season.

As a result, Gnabry has been limited to just 16 starts and four substitute appearances in the Bundesliga this season.

Nevertheless, the Bayern ace has scored nine goals and provided six assists in that time and has also played a direct hand in five goals in as many Champions League appearances.

Furthermore, only Timo Werner (8) and Jadon Sancho (6) have won the WhoScored Man of the Match award more times than Gnabry (5) in the Bundesliga this season.
