Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has announced he will retire at the end of the current campaign.
Cech joined Arsenal from London rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2015 but has dropped down the pecking order under Unai Emery this season.
Arsenal signed Bernd Leno in the summer and the German is now the club’s undisputed first-choice after Cech started the campaign in goal.
There were suggestions Cech would seek a move away from Arsenal this month but the 36-year-old has now confirmed he will retire at the end of the campaign.
“This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of the season,” he said in a statement on his official Twitter account.
“Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve.
“I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch.”
Cech holds the record for the most amount of clean sheets in the history of the Premier League (202).
However, since joining Arsenal, only Hugo Lloris (10) has made more errors leading to an opposition goal than Cech in the Premier League (9).
