Chelsea and Manchester United have enquired after Griezmann, says advisor
Antoine Griezmann’s advisor has revealed Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs that have registered an interest in the Atletico Madrid star but any potential move away will depend on whether the prospective club can offer Champions League football.
The France international has already admitted to being tired of repeatedly answering questions about his future amid links to United and his advisor has unlikely done him any favours following his latest comments.
Jose Mourinho’s side have been heavily linked with a move for Griezmann all season and are reportedly willing to match his €100m (£86m) release clause, but the striker’s advisor, Eric Olhats, has revealed they are not the only European giants chasing Griezmann’s signature this summer.
“There are not 50,000 clubs that can put 100 million on the table, it’s quickly figured out,” he told French broadcaster RMC. “That’s the price of the clause, they [Atletico] won’t give anything away cheaply. That limits the number of candidates right now.
“I had heard that Manchester United was done, was signed, but we don’t even know if they’ll play in the Champions League. That’s important, I must say. Manchester United have made an approach to inform themselves, just like all the others. They come to find out what our thinking is, what the player’s thinking is, if there are possibilities, how much, how? But it seems logical.
“Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and even Real have knocked on the door to see where things are, everyone comes to see what is do-able, and what is not do-able, that’s normal. It’s a game of musical chairs.”
United are currently outside of the Champions League places in the Premier League and four points adrift of City in fourth place. They are unbeaten in 20 league games but is has only consisted of 10 wins and they have drawn three of their last four to leave themselves with a real fight to qualify for the Champions League next season unless they win this season’s Europa League.
Griezmann, meanwhile, has enjoyed a fine run of form since the turn of the year and has played a direct hand in 21 league gaols this season (14 goals, seven assists) – only Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo has scored or assisted more.
