Dimitri Payet doesn’t want to play for West Ham, says Bilic
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has revealed Dimitri Payet does not want to play for the club anymore but the club will not entertain any offers for their star player this month.
Payet, 29, has been heavily linked with a move away from the east London outfit after dazzling in his debut campaign for the club last season and a move away has only intensified following the club’s poor start to the season.
The France international was one of the best players at Euro 2016 as his side narrowly lost to Portugal in the final and would not be short of suitors with Manchester United among the sides that have recently been linked with the creative midfielder.
For the first time Bilic has now confirmed Payet wants to leave but the club but is adamant West Ham have no interest in selling their best player, and with five years remaining on his existing deal, they are in no position where they have to sell.
“We have said we don’t want to sell our best players but Dimitri Payet does not want to play for us,” a statement read on West Ham's official website.
“We are not going to sell him. I spoke to the chairman and this is not a money issue. We gave him a long contract because we want him to stay.”
West Ham paid £10m to sign Payet from Marseille in 2015 and would easily be able to double their money this month if they were convinced to cash in despite the fact he will be 30 next month.
Despite West Ham’s struggles this season, Payet has still be the most creative player in the Premier League, registering at least 16 more key passes than any other player in Europe's top five leagues (74).
