Mourinho reveals the untouchable player in his Manchester United squad

Jose Mourinho launched another strong defence of summer signing Romelu Lukaku and revealed the £75m signing is untouchable in his Manchester United squad.

The United manager was left baffled by a section of United fans that booed his decision to replace Marcus Rashford with Anthony Martial in the second half of their clash with Tottenham on Saturday.

Mourinho’s decision was vindicated with Martial scoring the winner courtesy of Lukaku’s headed through ball and the Portuguese has leaped to the defence of the Belgium international for the second time in a matter of days.

“What he does for the team is fantastic and to play football for a striker is not just about scoring goals,” BBC Sport quote Mourinho as saying ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Benfica.

“I think Romelu is one of the players who should be untouchable in terms of respect from everyone. For me, he is untouchable in my team and I think he should be untouchable in the support and the respect he deserves from the fans.”

Lukaku failed to score in just one of his opening 12 matches for club and country but has gone off the boil of late and is now without a goal in five matches.

Nevertheless, only Leroy Sane (11) has played a direct hand in more Premier League goals this season than the United No.9 (10).
