Juventus announce arrival of Arsenal outcast

Juventus have announced they have completed a deal for Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a four-year deal until 2021.

Szczesny has spent the last two seasons on loan at Roma but has now completed a permanent move away from Arsenal after dropping below Petr Cech in the pecking order at the Emirates.

Juventus have also announced they have paid an initial €12.2m (£10.8m) for the Poland international plus a further €3.1m (£2.7m) in performance related add-ons.

“Juventus Football Club S.p.A announces that the agreement with the Arsenal Football Club Plc the definitive acquisition of the registration rights of the player Wojciech Szczesny has been finalised for a consideration of €12.2m payable in two financial years,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The purchase value may increase of maximum €3.1 million on achieving given conditions in the course of the duration of the contract. Juventus and the player have signed a four-year contract of employment until 30 June 2021.”

The 27-year-old is expected to spend the majority of next season on the bench behind Gianluigi Buffon but it has been suggested the veteran goalkeeper will finally retire after the 2018 World Cup.

Of goalkeepers to make at least 20 Serie A appearances last season, only one had a better save success rate than Szczesny (75.3%).
