Leicester sign Manchester City striker

Leicester announced on Thursday evening the arrival of Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a five-year deal until June 2020.

The Foxes have been in advanced negotiations with City since the end of last season and have finally resolved an image rights dispute with one of Iheanacho’s former agents to complete a deal reportedly worth £25m.

Pep Guardiola deemed Iheanacho surplus to requirements following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus at the start of 2017, but City have reportedly included a £50m buy-back clause.

“It feels good and I’m happy to be part of this team,” Iheanacho told the club’s official website. “I know the ambition of the team and speaking with the manager, he let me know what I need to do – to help the team achieve what they want. I was convinced and I’m happy to be here.”

The 20-year-old is the third Nigerian at the club alongside Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa and has been given the No.8 shirt ahead of the new campaign.

Of players that have scored at least 10 Premier League goals in the last two seasons, Iheanacho has required the fewest minutes per goal (1 every 106.5 minutes of action).
