Newcastle break club transfer record for new striker

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Sweden international Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad in a deal worth around £63m.

Eddie Howe's side have shattered their previous club record transfer fee to land the 22-year-old on a long-term deal.

Isak is Newcastle’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

"I'm delighted to have it done. It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with," Isak told Newcastle's official website.

"It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. Eddie Howe has also said that he is delighted to bring Isak to the club."

Isak, who has nine goals in 37 caps for his country, Isak scored 17 goals in the 2020/21 La Liga season, but could only manage six league goals last term.

At 6”4, Isak has a tremendous amount of pace and lots of quality, certainly which caught the eye of many fans and scouts after impressive performances in the 2020 Euros, helping his nation reach the last 16 of the competition.

With Callum Wilson currently out with a hamstring injury, there is every chance the Swede can lead the Newcastle attack as they look to build on their steady start to the season.
