Belgian stalls contract talks with Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois has put contract talks with Chelsea on hold after turning down the club’s first offer, reports The Daily Mail.

The Belgium international has previously been coy on his long-term future at Chelsea amid interest from Real Madrid but the Premier League champions are determined to extend the stay of their No.1 goalkeeper.

Courtois still has two years remaining on his current deal but revealed at the end of last season that he was hoping to be rewarded following a great season that saw the club win the league and reach the FA Cup final.

The 25-year-old, however, has turned down the club’s first contract offer, as is the case with most instances of contract talks between a club and player, but Chelsea will return with an improved offer later in the summer.

Courtois won the Golden Glove last season in the Premier League after keeping the most clean sheets (17).
