England defender withdraws from squad

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has withdrawn from the England squad that will face Slovakia on Sunday, the Football Association has confirmed.

Shaw is not injured but Sam Allardyce has confirmed the United defender has not felt quite right in training and has returned to his club as a precaution.

The 21-year-old has only just returned from a double leg fracture sustained last September and the decision has been made to manage his workload, paving the way for Danny Rose to start in England’s first World Cup qualifier.

Shaw hasn’t featured for England since September 2015 (vs Switzerland), but has made a superb start to the season with United.
