Bayern Munich concede defeat in pursuit of Premier League teenager

Bayern Munich have abandoned their six-month pursuit of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, claims The Independent.

Hudson-Odoi has entered the final 12 months of his current Chelsea deal and has so far been reluctant in pledging his long-term future to the club.

Bayern submitted three bids for the 18-year-old in January and all of them were knocked back by Chelsea, with the last of those topping £35m.

The Bundesliga outfit were willing to make Hudson-Odoi one of the most expensive players in the club’s history but Chelsea are determined to secure the winger’s future.

Niko Kovac’s side were reportedly willing to bid as much as £45m for Hudson-Odoi this summer even though he could be a free agent next summer.

However, Chelsea are optimistic Hudson-Odoi will agree terms on a new deal now that Frank Lampard has taken charge of the club.

Bayern have decided to pull the plug on their interest in Hudson-Odoi this summer and focus on signing other targets, though they hope to sign the England international on a free next year.

Hudson-Odoi, who is currently recovering from a serious Achilles injury sustained in April, only made 10 Premier League appearances last season and wants assurances about regular playing time next term.

Maurizio Sarri used Hudson-Odoi more in their Europa League-winning campaign and the Chelsea teen flourished.

Hudson-Odoi played a direct hand in six goals in nine Europa League appearances last season. Furthermore, of players that made at leave five appearances in the competition, only former team-mate Eden Hazard (7.2) completed more dribbles per 90 than Hudson-Odoi (6.5).
