Real Madrid eye goalkeeper swap deal with Paris Saint-Germain

Real Madrid want Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola in exchange for Keylor Navas, claims ESPN.

Navas has been heavily linked with a move to PSG in the last few weeks after deciding he wants to leave Madrid this summer.

The Costa Rica international has started the season as Thibaut Courtois’ understudy and is ready to call time on his five-year stint in Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane is reluctant to lose Navas but Madrid are in talks to sell the 32-year-old to their French counterparts.

Madrid were initially holding out for €20m (£18.2m) for Navas but could now ask for Areola in exchange.

The LaLiga giants will have to find a replacement if they sell Navas and have earmarked PSG goalkeeper Areola as a top target.

Areola is a product of PSG’s youth academy and has spent the last three years in the first-team after a series of loan moves.

The 26-year-old shared responsibilities in goal with Gianluigi Buffon last season but has started PSG’s first three league games this term.

Navas would likely only accept a move to PSG if he is the club’s first-choice goalkeeper leaving Areola with a decision to make about his future at the club.

Of goalkeepers that have made at least 20 appearances in Ligue 1 since the beginning of last season, Areola has the fourth best save success rate in the division (72.9%).
