Tottenham on brink of clinching Romero deal

Tottenham have made a breakthrough in talks to sign Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero with a deal worth €50m (£42.7m) almost done, reports Football London.

New Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici has been working hard to get a deal over the line for Romero after earmaking the centre-back as a priority signing.

Tottenham desperately need a new centre-back after selling Toby Alderweireld at the end of last month and a deal for Romero is in the finishing stages.

Romero has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham and made it clear to Atalanta he wants to join the Premier League outfit.

Atalanta will make Romero's loan move from Juventus permanent for £13.8m before sanctioning his departure to Tottenham for an enormous profit.

Romero has enjoyed a superb 12 months for club and country after emerging as one of the best defenders in Serie A and winning Copa America with Argentina in the summer.

The 23-year-old finished as both the top rated centre-back in Serie A and the Champions League and was named in the official Copa America Team of the Tournament.
