Manchester United identify shock De Gea replacement

Manchester United have sensationally earmarked Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan as a potential replacement for David de Gea, claims The Sun.

De Gea’s existing United deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the Red Devils fear losing their best player for nothing.

Jose Mourinho has already conceded he is not confident about United’s chances of retaining De Gea’s services and the club are drafting potential replacements.

Brighton goalkeeper Ryan has sensationally emerged as a potential candidate to succeed De Gea at Old Trafford following his fine form this season.

Ryan finished October in the WhoScored Team of the Month in the Premier League after keeping three clean sheets last month.

Brighton signed the 26-year-old from Valencia in 2017 and the Australia international has proved a shrewd investment for the Seagulls.

Ryan has kept 13 clean sheets in 48 Premier League appearances for Chris Hughton’s side and only made two errors leading to an opposition goal in that time.

By contrast, De Gea has kept 19 clean sheets in 47 league games since the start of last season and is yet to commit an error.
