Inter fall short in bid for former Manchester City striker

Inter have had a €15m (£13.7m) bid for Roma striker Edin Dzeko rejected, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Antonio Conte has earmarked Dzeko as one of his main transfer targets this summer, as Inter look to bring in two new strikers for next season.

The Serie A giants are struggling in their pursuit of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku and are also short in their chase of Dzeko.

Roma will not stand in Dzeko’s way of securing a move to their Italian rivals but only if their €20m (£18.3m) valuation is met.

Inter have already spent in the region of £80m this summer but need to raise extra funds in order to continue their spending spree.

Radja Nainggolan and Mauro Icardi are both for sale but Inter have failed to find any suitors for the out of favour duo.

Dzeko played a direct hand in 15 goals in 33 league appearances last season (nine goals, six assists) but his form has tailed off in recent years.

The 33-year-old scored 29 league goals in 2016/17 but has only netted 25 times across the subsequent two league campaigns.
