Manchester City match Tottenham’s £50m valuation for Walker

Manchester City believe they are on the brink of signing Kyle Walker after matching Tottenham’s £50m valuation, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Walker has been heavily linked with a move to City since the end of last season after being earmarked as a priority signing by Pep Guardiola, who wants to sign at least three new full-backs this summer.

City have moved quickly to step up their pursuit of Walker after they were dealt a huge blow on Wednesday from Dani Alves’ shock decision to turn down a move to the Etihad in favour of Paris Saint-Germain.

The 27-year-old dropped down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino towards the end of last season after it became apparent the England international was opening up to the idea of joining City.

Walker has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League under Pochettino in the last two seasons but isn’t expected to report back to pre-season with Tottenham anymore, as a move nears completion.

City were reluctant to pay more than £40m for the former Sheffield United defender but are now on the verge of making Walker the joint-most expensive defender of all-time alongside David Luiz’s £50m move to PSG in 2014.

No defender provided more assists in the Premier League last season than Walker (5).
