Middlesbrough sign Sporting Gijon highest rated player

Middlesbrough have announced they have made their second signing of the summer after reaching an agreement to sign Sporting Gijon defender Bernardo.

Bernardo, 26, will join Aitor Karanka’s side when his contract expires with Sporting Gijon at the end of this month.

The Colombia defender has spent the last three seasons with Sporting having previously come through the Sevilla academy but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular last season.

Nevertheless, Bernardo finished last season as Sporting’s highest rated player (7.06) in La Liga and averaged more blocks per game (1.1) than any other player to have made at least 10 appearances in the league.
