Tottenham club-record capture prepared to fight for first team spot

Tanguy Ndombele is prepared to reject the chance to leave Tottenham this summer in a bid to stay and fight for his place in Jose Mourinho's side, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Ndombele joined from Lyon last summer with a huge reputation and he started brightly with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm.

However, the Argentine's exit and subsequent appointment of Mourinho in November has seen Ndombele dip in and out of the starting XI, with the France international enduring his fair share of injury and fitness issues.

Mourinho publicly criticised the 23-year-old in Spurs' 1-1 draw at Burnley earlier this year, with the Portuguese boss hauling Ndombele off at half time following a disappointing opening 45 minutes at Turf Moor.

Tensions have been strained between the pair in north London and it has heightened speculation that the French midfielder could leave after a single season in England.

Barcelona have been courting Ndombele and with Spurs keeping tabs on out of favour Blaugrana midfielder Ivan Rakitic, the LaLiga champions could look to use the Croat as a makeweight in any deal for the summer arrival.

Ndombele, though, is keen to prove himself at Spurs, though, and will reportedly turn down any opportunity to depart the club when the transfer window opens.
