Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe has revealed he turned down a stunning move to Real Madrid in the summer to win titles with his boyhood club.
The 17-year-old has made an impressive start to the season when called upon by Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim and his performances have already caught the eye of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
Mbappe has already been described as the next best talent to emerge from France and the Under-19 international has revealed he turned down the advances of Madrid to land silverware with Monaco.
However, Mbappe also conceded that he does have one eye on leaving Monaco and has his eyes set on breaking the £58m Monaco received for the sale of Anthony Martial last year.
“If I beat Anthony Martial’s transfer fee I would be happy,” he told Telefoot, via The Daily Mail. “It would be nice, but it’s not something that gets me going every morning.
“To go down in history you have to win titles as well. So I want to win titles with Monaco. I’m just a kid and then, the best footballer of the history of France [Zinedine Zidane] is talking to you.
“He was really touching and sincere with me. It was a great moment but in the end it [the transfer] didn’t happen. I wanted to stay in my country. I stayed in Monaco and I think I’ve made the right choice.”
Mbappe’s involvement has been made fleetingly but it has been thoroughly impressive nonetheless. In fact, no teenager in Europe’s top five leagues as scored more goals than Mbappe this season (3), who has also registered four assists in his 10 appearances. Furthermore, Mbappe has played a direct hand in a league goal every 60 minutes this season.
