Frankfurt confirm permanent deal for Jovic

Frankfurt have confirmed they have triggered their option to make Luka Jovic’s loan switch from Benfica permanent.

The Bundesliga side host Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie and trail 4-2 on aggregate.

Jovic scored against his parent club in the first leg and will now be out to fire Frankfurt into the last four of the competition when the two sides meet.

Frankfurt signed Jovic in 2017 on a two-year loan deal and the 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought after young players on the planet this season.

Frankfurt have confirmed they have made his switch permanent after triggering their €7m buy-out option and now stand to make a huge profit in the summer.

Jovic has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona at the end of the season and Frankfurt are unlikely to retain his services over the summer.

The Serbia international has put pen to paper on a deal running until 2023 with Frankfurt but a sale appears a formality in the summer.

Only Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski (21) has scored more goals than Jovic (17) in the Bundesliga this season.
