Roma sign Szczesny on loan

Roma have signed Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move, the Premier League club have announced.

Szczesny, 25, has been Arsene Wenger’s first choice keeper for the last four years, but lost his place to David Ospina midway through last season following a run of poor form and ill-discipline.

His chances of playing for Arsenal this season were reduced further following the arrival of Petr Cech this summer and he is now on the verge of ending his nine-year association with the north London outfit.

Szczesny only made 17 starts in the Premier League last season and gained his worst WhoScored rating (6.46) in the last five years – the worst rating of any Arsenal player to have made more than five starts in England’s top-flight last season.
