Manchester United failed in an attempt to sign Arda Turan last season, according to the midfielder’s agent.
Turan, 28, eventually left Atletico Madrid to join Barcelona over the summer and will not be available to feature for the reigning La Liga champions until the New Year when their transfer embargo is lifted.
The Turkey international was linked with a number of clubs across Europe at the end of last season and his agent has revealed that United fell short in their pursuit of the midfielder.
“Last season United have made a bid for Arda but Atletico Madrid did not want him to leave,” Ahmed Bulut told Turkish paper AMK.
“I was in talks with Barcelona but told nobody at the time.”
In his last season at Atletico, Turan was dispossessed at least 35 times more than any over teammate in La Liga (89).
