Martial wants to leave Manchester United, confirms agent

The agent of Anthony Martial has confirmed his client wants to leave Manchester United this summer.

Martial has endured a turbulent two years under Jose Mourinho and has dropped further down the pecking order since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival in January.

The 22-year-old missed out on a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the 2018 World Cup and has been heavily linked with a move away from United this summer.

There have been mixed reports about United’s stance on Martial, but his agent, Philippe Lamboley, has confirmed  his client wants to leave.

"After reflecting carefully on all the possibilities and all the parameters, Anthony has decided he wants to leave Manchester United," he told RMC.

"Manchester United wanted to offer Anthony a contract extension and don't want him to leave, but we haven't been able to reach an agreement after several months of talks.

"If Manchester United, the most powerful club in the world, can't reach an agreement after eight months of negotiations, it means they don't really consider him to be an important player.

"We simply don't share their view of Anthony's future. He is disappointed, because he has shown love for the club and supporters over the last three years. I can tell you that without the unconditional love of the supporters, Anthony wouldn've asked to leave Manchester United sooner."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to prise Martial away from Old Trafford but it remains to be seen whether United would be willing to strengthen a direct rival.

Juventus are also in the running for the United No.11 and they will likely face stiff competition from other European clubs following the latest news emerging from Martial’s camp.

Martial made 30 appearances in the league last season but only 18 of those were starts. His best displays tended to come off the bench, illustrated by the fact no Premier League player was involved in more goal involvements as a substitute than Martial (6) last season.
