Mike Phelan is set to become the new permanent Hull City manager this week, reports The Guardian.
The former Manchester United assistant was placed in temporary charge of Hull at the start of the season following Steve Bruce’s resignation.
Many tipped Hull for an immediate return to the Championship but the Tigers, under Phelan’s watch, have made a good start to life back in the Premier League and Phelan is now set to be rewarded with the full time position.
“I hope so,” Phelan said when asked if a deal was close to being finalised. “We’ve got to the stage where there’s an offer and it’s a case of making sure everything’s correct and we can get on with it.
“It’s a case of sitting down and sifting through a detailed contract; I’m sure it’ll just be a matter of time.”
Phelan set a Premier League record against Arsenal at the weekend after naming the same starting XI in each of the opening five matches of the season.
