Monaco confident of securing world record fee for striker

Monaco are hopeful that a bidding war between Manchester City and Real Madrid will see them secure a world record fee for teenage striker Kylian Mbappe, reports Yahoo Sport.

Mbappe, 18, has been a revelation for Monaco this season and his staggering goalscoring form has attracted interest from almost all of the big clubs in Europe.

The France international isn’t the only Monaco player that will be of interest to their rivals this summer, but he will certainly secure the biggest fee with the potential of shattering the £89m Manchester United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba last summer.

Bidding reportedly started at €60m (£51m) after he burst onto the scene in February but Monaco are now alleged to be rejecting offers in the region of €130m (£110.4m) following his continued form on the grandest stage, the Champions League.

Mbappe has scored 13 goals in his last 11 matches for Monaco in all competitions and has netted 21 times in 34 appearances in all competitions, a staggering return for a teenager in his breakthrough campaign.
