West Ham youngster completes shock Gladbach move

Bundesliga side Gladbach have announced they have signed West Ham youngster Reece Oxford on a season-long loan deal.

Oxford, 18, spent the second half of last season on loan at Reading but failed to make any impression under Jaap Stam before returning to West Ham.

The England U20 international was previously linked with a move to Manchester United after making an impressive debut for West Ham at the start of the 2015/16 campaign before eventually signing a new deal in December.

However, Oxford will continue develop away from West Ham and will make the commendable step to ply his trade outside of England.

“Reece Oxford has played for England at youth level and is considered one of the country’s best young defensive talents,” Gladbach’s sporting director, Max Eberl, told the club’s official website.

“This loan deal gives us the chance to add a very interesting player to our squad. On top of that, we’ve had good experience with signing young Premier League players in the recent past.”

In six months at Reading, Oxford only made five appearances totalling 201 minutes of action and finished the campaign as one of their lowest rated players (6.48).
