Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny is set to undertake his medical ahead of a £7m move to Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.
The Gunners are understood to have already reached an agreement with the Swiss Super League-leaders, but still need the 23-year-old to complete his medical before completing the move.
Arsene Wenger revealed he had already begun scouring the market last week as he looks to bolster his squad that has been decimated by long-term injuries to key midfielders.
Elneny, an Egypt international, would also be eligible to play for Arsenal in the Champions League having only featured in Uefa’s second tier competition with Basel this season.
In fact, he has garnered the highest WhoScored rating of all Basel players in the Europa League this season (7.70). Moreover, only Mirko Valdifiori (105) averages more passes per game than Elneny in the competition this season (92).
