Liverpool have €65m bid for Bundesliga star rejected

Liverpool have failed with a club-record €65m (£57m) bid for RB Leipzig star Naby Keita as the Bundesliga side insist their key midfielder is not for sale at any price this summer, claims German outlet BILD.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already made Mohamed Salah the club’s most expensive player of all-time in a £36.9m deal and they are prepared to shatter that in order to bring the Guinea international to Anfield.

Keita is reportedly keen to join Liverpool this summer but Leipzig have no intention of losing any of their star players ahead of their first ever season in the Champions League.

Leipzig are understood to have even contacted their Premier League counterparts and issued a hands off warning but that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from submitting a enormous bid for the 22-year-old.

The Leipzig No.8 has a £45m release clause in his existing deal that will become active in 12 months but Klopp wants to land the box-to-box midfielder this summer to avoid being beaten to his signature by any of their European rivals.

Keita played a direct hand in 15 goals in 31 league appearances for the Bundesliga high-flyers last season, while only Borussia Dortmund sensation Ousmane Dembele (103) completed more dribbles than Keita (83).
