Sam Allardyce has confirmed he spoke with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish on Monday but has ruled out a return to the club.
The former England manager made the shock decision to retire at the end of last season after leading Palace to safety in the Premier League.
The Eagles appointed Frank de Boer as his successor but announced on Monday they had sacked the Dutchman after just four games in charge.
Palace will reportedly make former England manager Roy Hodgson their new manager but Allardyce confirmed on Sky’s Monday Night Football that he had turned down the chance to return to the club.
“I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking a manager position, I am enjoying my life too much,” Allardyce told Sky Sports, via BBC Sport. “I spoke to Steve [Parish] late this afternoon and said that for me, I wouldn’t be ready to come back.
“He didn’t offer me the job, he just asked me, ‘what are your thoughts?’ I told him that at this moment in time, I wouldn’t want to go back in.”
Allardyce took charge of Palace in December 2016 with the club only one point above the bottom three. Nine wins in 23 games in charge were enough for Palace to finish seven points clear of relegation.
