Manchester United are favourites to sign Lazio centre-back Stefan de Vrij, though face competition from Chelsea and Serie A side AC Milan for his signature, reports Football Italia.
The Dutch defender made only two league appearances for Lazio last season due to injury, but has returned to action impressively having made 15 Serie A starts this term.
His performances have not gone unnoticed either, with United, Chelsea and AC Milan all credited with an interest in the 25-year-old.
Chelsea were linked with a move for De Vrij last summer, but were put off by Lazio’s asking price, though they could return for the defender at the end of the season.
However, United are said to be leading the race to secure his services with a verbal agreement supposedly in place that would see him move to Old Trafford for €35 believed to be in place.
De Vrij has 18 months left to run on his current deal for Lazio and has shown no signs that he is prepared to extend his stay in Rome beyond June 2018, which would force the Italian outfit to cash in on the defender this summer.
