Chelsea and Liverpool to go head-to-head for £60m Bundesliga hitman

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool are prepared to face off in the race to bring Timo Werner to England, reports The Mirror.

The Germany international has established himself as one of the most lethal strikers on the continent having netted twice in RB Leipzig's 4-1 win over Union Berlin on Saturday to break the 20-goal barrier.

Werner has had a direct hand in a goal in each of his last 10 RB Leipzig appearances and the Bundesliga powerhouse are understandably keen to retain the services of their hotshot striker.

The 23-year-old penned a new deal last summer, though that was largely so RB Leipzig could avoid losing him on a free later this year.

Werner has previously expressed an interest in playing in the Premier League and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a keen admirer of his compatriot.

And while Werner is unlikely to leave the Bundesliga leaders this month, RB Leipzig may struggle to retain his services in the summer, even if they are crowned champions.

Nevertheless, Chelsea are weighing up the likelihood of bringing Werner to England in January, while Liverpool are prepared to wait until the summer before making their move.

The duo are unlikely to have a straight shot at Werner, with Bayern Munich also credited with an interest in the young forward.
