Chelsea defender pens new deal

Chelsea have announced defender Gary Cahill has signed a new four-year deal keeping him at the club until 2019.

Cahill, 29, only had 18 months remaining on his previous deal and had been hoping to secure his long-term future at the club before turning 30 next month.

“I’m really pleased to commit my future to Chelsea and it’s great the club has put their faith in me,” Cahill told the Chelsea official website.

“I have achieved a lot here and I hope I can keep on learning, helping the team and lifting trophies over the next four years.”

The England international has developed immensely since joining Chelsea from Bolton in 2012. In fact, no Chelsea player has won more aerial duels than Cahill in the Premier League since then (329).
