Real Madrid are readying a big money move for long-term target and Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski, according to Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
The Poland international has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital for some time now and it seems Real Madrid are at long last set to firm up their interest in the 29-year-old, who has scored more goals (27) than any other player in the Bundesliga this season.
"Let’s see what happens with Karim Benzema. They will try and keep him and sell Bale, although he doesn’t want to go. Robert Lewandowski wants to come to Real Madrid, we’ve been saying that on Revista de La Liga for months now,” Balague said.
"More and more details are coming out since he changed his agent. Now we are hearing through German media that he’s told his team-mates he wants to go to Real Madrid, all part of the same strategy to get out of Bayern Munich.
"They insist Lewandowski will not be leaving but Real Madrid are prepared to pay a big sum for him. So let’s see if Bayern sell, after all, they are not obliged as Lewandowski has no buy-out clause.
"I think the signing would give Real Madrid fire power, bringing Lewandowski in alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos spoke to Lewandowski in the past and tell him he should move to the Bernabeu, so the approval of Ronaldo is definitely worth having.
"With Marcos Asensio, Lucas Vazquez, Toni Kroos in midfield, Ronaldo, Lewandowski and a better Benzema, Real Madrid will have a very powerful offence next season, that’s for sure."
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Lewandowski, who has been a hit for Bayern following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
