Liverpool’s top four hopes have been served a real blow with news star man Sadio Mane will miss the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury, reports The Guardian.
The Senegal international has quickly developed into one of Liverpool’s most important players since joining from Southampton last summer but he is set to undergo knee surgery on Tuesday before being sidelined for two months.
Mane has missed Liverpool’s last two matches since injuring the meniscus in his left knee during the Merseyside Derby win over Everton at the start of April and Liverpool’s worst fears have since been confirmed by scan results.
The 24-year-old has flourished for Liverpool this season and it was no coincidence that Liverpool’s title challenge fell apart during the period Mane was at the Africa Cup of Nations at the start of the year.
In fact, Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Stoke at the weekend was only the first time they have managed to win a Premier League game that Mane has not started this season, at the sixth attempt.
