Tottenham announce new six-year deal for Harry Kane

Tottenham have announced Harry Kane has put pen to paper on a new six-year deal running until 2024.

Kane's previous £100,000-a-week deal was not due to expire until 2022 but Tottenham have moved to secure the striker's long-term future.

The 24-year-old has developed into one of the best centre forwards in the world in the last few years and will captain England at the 2018 World Cup.

Real Madrid have previously been linked with a move for the Tottenham star but will now have to sound out alternatives in their search for Cristiano Ronaldo's long-term successor.

Mauricio Pochettino's side usually operate under a rigid wage structure but have reportedly agreed to double Kane's salary in order to retain his long-term services.

Tottenham's decision to shatter their world structure will likely have consequences for the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, who will be within their right to demand similar contracts.

Since August 2016, Kane has scored at least 18 more goals than any other player in the Premier League (59). Furthermore, Kane is one of three players, along with Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer, to score at least 25 goals in three consecutive Premier League campaigns.
