Arnautovic puts pen to paper on new contract

Marko Arnautovic has put to bed rumours of his departure by penning a new contract with Stoke City.

The Austria international had been strongly linked with a move away from the Potters this summer, with Everton rumoured to be interested in the 27-year-old.

However, Stoke have since confirmed that Arnautovic has signed a new deal at the club.

“Stoke City are delighted to announce that Marko Arnautovic has pledged his long-term future to the Club,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The mercurial Austrian has signed a new four-year contract, tying him to the Potters until the summer of 2020.

“Arnautovic completed the formalities of his new deal while in the United States where the first team squad are spending 10 days as part of their build-up to the 2016/17 season.”

Chief executive Tony Scholes said of the deal: “We are delighted that Marko has decided to commit his long-term future to the Club.

“It has been a lengthy process but these things often are. Marko is settled in England and very happy at Stoke City which is why he has taken the decision to re-sign for a further four years. It’s a major boost to us as we prepare for the new season.”

Arnautovic was a key performer for Stoke last season, netting more times (11) than any other teammate, in the process becoming the club’s record goalscorer in a single Premier League campaign.
