Liverpool defender signs new contract

Liverpool have announced Dejan Lovren has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract worth a reported £100,000-a-week.

Lovren’s previous deal was due to expire in 2019 but the Croatia international has come on leaps and bounds under Jurgen Klopp after an initial rough start at Anfield following his arrival from Southampton in 2014.

The 27-year-old has racked up more than 100 appearances for Liverpool during his three seasons at the club and the powerful centre-back has expressed his joy at extending his stay at the club for years to come.

“I think this is one special day for me and my family,” Lovren told the club’s official website. “I think I am the happiest guy [in the world] today, it’s another dream come true. It was always my dream to stay as long as possible at one club that I love – and that is Liverpool.

“After all that happened in the beginning, in the last two seasons I think I’ve done better than in the first season. The club has rewarded me, they believed in me and also the fans, and this is what I respect a lot after everything that happened.

“I am pleased with everything and I just want to stay here as long as possible and be part of this family for many, many years to come.”
