Giroud does not regret staying at Arsenal

Olivier Giroud insists he does not regret turning down the chance to leave Arsenal over the summer despite failing to break into the first time this season.

The France international was widely expected to leave Arsenal over the summer after dropping down the pecking order last season.

Alexandre Lacazette’s club-record arrival only seemed to consolidate the fact Giroud had no future at the Emirates but the 31-year-old opted against leaving.

Giroud has not started a Premier League match this season but insists he does not regret his decision to stay.

“I am not questioning myself about the future,” The Daily Telegraph quote Giroud as saying on international duty with France. “I am happy at Arsenal and I am fine with the decision to stay because I want to.

“I am thinking that the story between the club and myself was not over and not finished. We will see what happens but I am happy at Arsenal for the moment.”

Giroud has returned to Arsenal after picking up a thigh injury during France’s 2-0 win over Wales and is unlikely to feature in the first north London derby of the season on Saturday.

Since the start of last season, Giroud has scored more goals as a substitute than any other Premier League player (7).
