Marcos Alonso has revealed he expects to put pen to paper on a new long-term Chelsea deal before the end of the month.
The 27-year-old completed a shock £23m move to Chelsea from Fiorentina in 2016 but has been a revelation for the Premier League giants.
Alonso’s current Chelsea deal is not due to expire until 2021 but the Spaniard has revealed the club have offered him an extension.
“I am very calm and very happy at Chelsea, and the club must also be happy with me because, although I still have two years left on my contract, they have offered me an extension,” he told Spanish newspaper AS .
“We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of the month – in the coming days.”
“My father takes care of that as he is the one who leads the negotiations. I am 27-years-old, I still have two more years and I am going to extend my contract.”
“What concerns me is to play as well as possible to win matches and titles with Chelsea and with the national team. I’m calm with my contract.”
Not only has Alonso proved a capable defender in the last two years, he has also been prolific in front of goal.
Alonso has scored 14 goals in 72 league appearances since his Chelsea debut and provided a further seven assists.
In fact, Alonso has played a direct hand in more Premier League goals than any other defender in that time.
