Manchester United battling league rivals for £60m-rated Serie A midfielder

Manchester United are in competition with Manchester City and Arsenal for the signature of Napoli midfielder Jorginho, claims The Sun.

Jose Mourinho wants to bolster his midfield options in the summer in order to bring the best out of Paul Pogba and has already been linked with moves for the likes of Nice star Jean Seri and Shakhtar Donetsk ace Fred.

The United manager also wants to land Jorginho, who has developed into one of the most highly rated central midfielders in Europe since Maurizio Sarri became Napoli boss in June 2015.

However, Mourinho faces competition from Premier League rivals City and Arsenal, who also want to add Jorginho to their midfield options ahead of next season.

The 26-year-old’s current Napoli deal isn’t due to expire until 2020 but his agent has already revealed his client his open to extending his stay with the current Serie A leaders.

No player in Europe’s top five leagues this season averages more passes per game than Jorginho (95.5).
