Mesut Ozil has confirmed that he wants to stay at Arsenal with contract talks expected to resume after the club’s pre-season tour.
Ozil has just 12 months left to run on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal are keen to tie the German, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain down to new contracts.
The latter duo have shown little indication that suggests they are prepared to extend their stay in north London, but 28-year-old Ozil has shown no hesitation about where he wants his future to lie.
When asked if his preference is to stay with Arsenal, Ozil is quoted by Football.London as saying: “Definitely.
“It is such a great club, I’ve always said I feel very well at Arsenal.”
An offer worth £250,000 per week is thought to be on the table, but Ozil believes things will be clearer once Arsenal return to from their tour of Australia and China, adding: “For now the most important is pre-season and to get through the tour.
“Pre-season is about training and getting my fitness. Once everybody is back in London we will sit down and discuss the future.
“I was on vacation (during the summer), I did not think about (Alexis Sanchez's situation).
“I tried to clear my mind for myself.
“Obviously a player has to think about his own future, it’s his own decision. That’s something that everybody has to respect.”
