AC Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli has confirmed the club are interested in signing Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina at the end of the season.
The Serie A giants have been heavily linked with a move for the former Liverpool shot-stopper in recent weeks as Reina is out of contract in the summer.
Reina rejected an offer of a 12-month contract extension from Napoli last summer and is now set to leave the San Paolo after three years at the club.
Napoli are already listing potential replacements for the 35-year-old and now Milan have confirmed an interest in prising him to San Siro.
“We did inform Napoli that we want to speak to Pepe Reina’s agent, because we want to see if there’s a possibility of bringing the player to Milan,” Mirabelli told Sky Sport Italia, via Goal.com.
Confirmation of Milan’s interest in the Spain international will only fuel suggestions Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave Milan at the end of the season.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper was heavily linked with a move away from his boyhood club last summer before eventually signing a new deal.
However, Reina’s arrival doesn't appear to make much sense as a No.2 as they would be spending big wages on the veteran.
Reina has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in Serie A this season (13).
