Manchester United midfielder emerges as shock target for rivals Arsenal

Arsenal could make a move for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard should they fail to keep Dani Ceballos at the Emirates Stadium beyond the summer, according to The Athletic.

Ceballos has struggled for game time during his loan stint at the Emirates, with injuries restricting the Spaniard to just 10 league starts.

Head coach Mikel Arteta is keen to keep Ceballos in north London for the upcoming campaign, whenever that may be.

Real Madrid's stance on the Spain international has softened in recent weeks, with head coach Zinedine Zidane willing to allow Ceballos, who had tried to cut his spell in London short in January, to secure a season-long loan move away from the club.

Interest in the 23-year-old is likely to be high, and it means that Arsenal could surprisingly turn to Lingard if they are unable to strike up a deal for Ceballos.

Lingard has struggled to make an impact for United this season and he has scored as many competitive goals at the Emirates Stadium as he has at Old Trafford (1) since March 2018.

The 27-year-old is yet to have a direct hand in a goal in the Premier League this season and United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prepared to sanction his departure should the right offer come in.
