Newcastle are determined to land a new starting goalkeeper this summer and have turned their attentions to Paris Saint-Germain outcast Alphonse Areola, reports France Football, via Get French Football.
Rafa Benitez’s side were interested in signing Joe Hart but appear to have been put off by Manchester City’s £20m valuation and are now weighing up a €15m (£13.3m) offer for Areola.
The 24-year-old was brought back to PSG last summer by head coach Unai Emery following a loan stint in Spain but endured a tough start to the season and was eventually replaced in goal by former No.1 Kevin Trapp.
Areola is now facing the prospect of being third choice at the club for the upcoming season with PSG on the market for a new goalkeeper, paving the way for Newcastle to make a potential move.
Of goalkeepers that made more than 15 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, only Remy Riou (57%) had a worse save success rate than Areola (57.6%).
